Follow These 5 Tips to Have a Healthier Weekend

January 1, 2016 |

Do you find yourself in need a little extra push to get moving once Friday rolls around? Here are my top 5 tips to help you have a healthier weekend.

1. Increase Your Workout Time

Most people work full time during the week and have weekends off, so that leaves extra time on the weekend for a longer workout. If you normally do 30 minutes of cardio, try 45 — or even stretch it out to a full hour on the weekend. It's also a great time to fit in some strength training!

2. Get Plenty of Sleep

The weekend is a great time to catch up on sleep, but many people veer off track with their sleeping schedule once Saturday rolls around. Changing your sleep patterns can interfere with weight loss because it wrecks your eating schedule. After all…if you sleep until noon, you won't be up in time for a healthy breakfast. Plus, you'll set yourself up for a sleepy Monday if you stay up too late on Sunday night.

3. Eat Healthy Foods

Just because it's the weekend doesn't mean you can splurge on junk food. Eat like it's a weekday and have 3 healthy meals and 2 high-energy snacks each day. Sunday is also a great time to do your grocery shopping and meal prep, so you'll set yourself up for a healthy week ahead.

4. Weigh In

Plan to weigh yourself on Sunday night or Monday morning so you'll be encouraged to make healthy choices over the weekend. This trick is always motivating for me! 🙂

5. Head Outdoors

The weekend is a perfect time to head outdoors and soak up some sunshine, which is one of the best sources of Vitamin D. (Just remember to wear your sunscreen!) It's also a great time to catch up with friends, so do yourself a favor and combine the two by meeting a friend for a walk, hike, or a fun game of frisbee.

I hope these tips help you to have a healthier weekend!

XOXO, ERIN
