It's been rather quiet around the blog lately, but that's only because I've been busy working on my Savannah ebook. One of the things I mention in it is that I usually recommend visitors stay in one of Savannah's beautiful historic homes vs. staying in a hotel. I thought I'd list a few of my favorite affordable Airbnb rentals in and around Savannah!

Affordable Airbnb Savannah GA Rentals
If you're not familiar with rental costs in Savannah, a general rule of thumb is that rates vary — for a home of the exact same size and with similar amenities — based on the home's vicinity to River Street or Forsyth Park and whether or not its in a nice area. [Trust me when I say just one block can make a huge difference in Savannah!]
- Since I write from the viewpoint of a solo female traveler, I've only listed homes in areas where a female traveler would feel safe and comfortable staying alone.
- I've also only listed options that include private bathrooms and sleeping spaces; you won't find any single bedroom rentals that require you to share a bathroom (or any space) with strangers.
If you see a price higher than $100 per night here, it's because the homeowner raised the rates since I wrote the post or because you're searching during peak travel dates, such as St. Patrick's week or during the Savannah Film Festival.

Starland District Rentals
The Starland District is one of my favorite areas in Savannah! It's far enough removed from the Historic District that it isn't filled with tourists, yet there are still incredible restaurants and shops to keep you busy for a few days. It's also within walking distance to Forsyth Park.
Starland is an artsy area with lots of galleries and unique shops. If you're looking for antebellum homes, you won't find those here. However, you will find a diverse community of creatives who often own nearby businesses and take pride in their neighborhood.
⭐ Insider Tip: Street parking is free throughout the Starland District, but do pay close attention to sweeper zone signs and move your car during listed times or you'll risk a fine. You usually only need to move your car one night per week.
Stella Blue – A | $60 per night
Home Type: 1 Bed, 1 Bath
Sleeps: 4
Pets: Not Allowed
PERKS: This quaint little cottage (built in 1915) is a steal! It has an open floor plan with a kitchenette that includes a sink, microwave, and a stove for on-site cooking. There are lots of great restaurants and shops within walking distance, too!
DRAWBACKS: The railroad tracks are close enough to this one that you can hear the trains go by, but not in a bad “shake the house” kind of way. It does have a shared wall with the cottage next door, but that's also not a dealbreaker — especially for such a great rate. There's no washer in this option and also no icemaker (just a mini fridge).
I actually prefer side-by-side shared rentals vs. above/below shared rentals. I've stayed in first floor rentals in older homes in Savannah and it's torture to hear every step on a creaky wooden floor above your bed when you're trying to sleep!
Check Rates: Stella Blue – A | Use my $55 Airbnb credit (try Stella Blue – B if A isn't available!)
Scope it out in advance on Google Maps: 8 E. 41st Street, Savannah, GA 31401
*Stella Blue A & B are female managed properties and the host, Emily, is rated as a Superhost.

The Haint House | $100 per night
Home Type: 2 Bed, 1 Bath
Sleeps: 4
Pets: Not Allowed
PERKS: This home is very typical of homes built in Savannah in the early 1900s. It's a multi-family dwelling and the owner lives on site, but you'll have your own separate entry and private space on the upper level. It's close enough to Foxy Loxy that you can step outside or open a window to enjoy music from their Tuesday night courtyard sessions. The house sits on a quiet, brick-lined street.
DRAWBACKS: There's no washer and dryer with this option. There is a kitchenette, but it doesn't include a stove and it only has a mini fridge.
Check Rates: The Haint House | Use my $55 Airbnb credit
Scope it out in advance on Google Maps: 106 W. 36th Street, Savannah, GA 31401
*Haint House is a female managed property and the host, Eleanor, is rated as a Superhost.
Solar Powered | $65 per night
Home Type: 1 Bed, 1 Bath
Sleeps: 2
Pets: Not Allowed
PERKS: This is a no-frills option, but I'm including it for the great rate. It's a duplex, so it has its own private entry and includes a dedicated outdoor patio/balcony space. The owners live on site and respond quickly to questions. It's adorably decorated if you're a fan of repurposed and vintage decor! The homeowners place an emphasis on renewable resources and organic supplies.
DRAWBACKS: This option is very close to the railroad tracks, but a white noise machine is included to drown out the sounds. Note that there's no kitchen or washer with this option. There's also no TV, so bring a laptop if you're planning to watch Netflix during your stay.

Victorian District Rentals
It doesn't get much more centrally located than the Victorian District. Most of the homes in this area were built in the mid- to late-1800s and have intricate detailing, steeply pitched rooflines, and asymmetrical porches. They also tend to be very colorful!

Little Pink House | $90 per night
Home Type: 2 Bed, 2 Bath
Sleeps: 4
Pets: Not Allowed
PERKS: This adorable little pink house option includes includes a full kitchen and 2 private baths for less than $100. There's also a private balcony. The exterior is cute and very Instagrammable.
DRAWBACKS: You won't get an authentic “old Savannah home” vibe here. The interior is completely modern, so there's nothing Victorian about it. (You'll see plenty of Victorian-style architecture when exploring the neighborhood, though!)

**Little Pink is managed by a couple of artists — one is a retired SCAD professor — and they are rated as Superhosts.
Artist's Studio| $85 per night
Home Type: 2 Bed, 1 Bath
Sleeps: 4
Pets: Not Allowed
PERKS: Consider this duplex with a private entry as the masculine alternative to the pink house listed above. The paint colors and decor are darker toned and the original art found throughout the loft consists primarily of nude sketches. The owner uses the bottom floor as an art studio, but is often away on travels. The rental has a full kitchen that includes a stove. The private balcony with a hammock is a definite bonus!
DRAWBACKS: I can't really think of any, unless you shy away from rentals with tons of character and unique art!

*Artist's Studio is managed by a SCAD drawing professor, Jeff, who is rated as a Superhost.
Sweet 1902 Bungalow | $100 per night
Home Type: 2 Bed, 1 Bath
Sleeps: 4
Pets: Not Allowed
PERKS: This 1902 renovated bungalow has the charm of an older home, but includes all the modern amenities most travelers need. The kitchen has a full sized refrigerator, dishwasher, and stove. It's single story, so you won't hear anyone walking above you. The heart pine floors are original and restored, and there's a beautiful exposed brick fireplace in one of the bedrooms. The home also has private off-street parking (2 spaces), a wide screen TV, and upgraded appliances/linens.
This option is great for 2 couples traveling together or for a girlfriends getaway. -e
DRAWBACKS: None come to mind, other than the fact that you'd have to share a bathroom if you were traveling with another couple.
Check Rates: Sweet 1902 Bungalow | Use my $55 Airbnb credit
*Sweet 1902 Bungalow is managed by a young military couple, Sarah & Michael, and they are rated as Superhosts.
Be sure to check out these spots while you're in the Victorian District:
- Coffee: The Sentient Bean
- Food: Blowin' Smoke ($$), Sandfly BBQ ($), Green Truck Neighborhood Pub ($$), Betty Bombers ($$)
- Browse: Forsyth Park Farmers Market (Saturday mornings)

Savannah Historic District Rentals
Prices are steep in the true Historic District, so it's more difficult to find good options…but not impossible! The Historic District is generally considered the safest area in Savannah, and the majority of the city's tourist attractions are within easy walking distance.
Historic District Suite 2 | $90 per night
Home Type: 1 Bed, 1 Bath
Sleeps: 4
Pets: Not Allowed
PERKS: This home is on a very quiet little street and it's within walking distance to the majority of Savannah's top tourist attractions, as well as a plethora of restaurants and shops. Like every other option I've listed in this post, it includes a private bathroom. All rooms are updated, and the kitchen has granite countertops, a full size fridge, and a stove. There's also a sweet little balcony with a small table where you can enjoy a meal or coffee.
DRAWBACKS: Since this house is in the true Historic District, there's no free street parking. Purchase a day pass with the city for $15 per day. Alternately, you can park south of Forsyth Park and walk or Uber to the rental. Just be sure you leave your car in a safe place and move it on the days the street sweepers go by, or you'll risk a $20 fine.

Jones Street Garden Home | $100 per night
Home Type: 2 Bed, 1 Bath
Sleeps: 4
Pets: Not Allowed
PERKS: It doesn't get much more “Savannah” than Jones Street, which is considered one of the most beautiful streets in America. The owner resides on the upper level and rents out the garden level of the home. Garden level rentals stay pretty cool temperature-wise and are easy to access. They typically have original brick or wood floors (this rental has brick) and they usually feature exposed beams or exposed brick walls and fireplaces (this home has all but the exposed beams). With this home, you get shared access to the back garden of the home, as well as a full private kitchen. You can also rent the carriage house out back if you're traveling with a group! The famous Mrs. Wilkes' Dining Room is nearby.
DRAWBACKS: A garden level home can get noisy, since it's at street level. (Jones Street is somewhat busy, but tourists usually disappear around 8 p.m. and then it quiets down.) Homes in Savannah are old and many have original wood floors, which means you'll likely hear creaking footsteps as people walk in the space above you. It's all part of the charm, but keep those details in mind! This is in the true Historic District, so you'll have to pay additional parking fees if you bring a car.

Pin It for Later: Affordable Airbnb Rentals in Savannah (Under $100)

Need a safe location for 2 taking a mini vacation 6/1-6/4. Visiting family in Savannah but also want exploring time/location as well. Recommendations?
The safest locations would be anything north of Gwinnett Street within the Landmark Historic District or homes on Jones Street or Taylor Street. I’m not sure what you mean about “exploring time”? The Historic District is very walkable, so you can explore for days without needing a car. You’ll only need a car to head to Wormsloe, Tybee Island, Bonaventure, and one or two other attractions on the far outskirts of the city. Feel free to email me at erin (@) sandsunandmessybuns.com for more help!
do you recommend staying in the victorian district west of Savannah?I rented an airbnb with my parents and its our first time going. Its he area right by tremont temple church. Is that a safe area? Thanks!
I don’t consider that a very safe area. Montgomery Street is one of the more dangerous streets in the area, and the temple you reference is on a block that borders Montgomery. Will you have a car with you, or will you be walking? If you don’t have a car, you should take Lyft at night instead of walking. There are a few quiet streets in that area that are pretty safe, but the ones directly bordering the temple aren’t the best. (You can email me the exact address or the street name if you want me to check it out for you! erin[at]sandsunandmessybuns[dot]com.)
Really useful post as I just moved to Atlanta and Savannah is on my list. Looks beautiful! Do you think Airbnb’s are the best way to go? I normally do b&bs because I like chatting with the locals. Will check out your other posts 🙂
If you stay in any of the options in the Starland District and wander around, you’ll definitely meet locals! Each of the hosts for the 3 Starland District options either live on site or very close by and will give recommendations of places to go. You’ll find lots of SCAD students at Foxy Loxy and Sly’s Sliders. The Starland Cafe is owned by locals who helped revitalize the Starland District, so definitely stop in there to chat! Or just message me and if I’m in town I’ll meet up with you 🙂
Oops, I forgot to mention, if you want to try a B&B option, there are plenty of fantastic ones but they’re usually in a higher price range. The Azalea Inn is in a great location within walking distance to everything, but still in a very quiet and safe neighborhood.
Well this would have been good to read a week ago! I was thinking about doing a day trip to Savannah from Charleston, SC but was having trouble finding a place to stay! I guess I’ll have to try these out another time 😛
Oh bummer! lol It’s the perfect quick little day trip from Charleston. Hopefully you can make it again soon. The weather will be perfect again in about…oh, 3 months or so 😉
What a great post, especially for a place like Savannah, where staying in an historic home is such a great experience. Thanks for scoping them all out – I’m bookmarking this for our next visit!
