When we started this blog, we knew we wanted to be able to give back a percentage of our earnings to the causes that mean the most to us. When you click on or make a purchase through certain links (commonly called “affiliate links“) on this site, we have the potential to make a commission from that click or purchase. While we don't make much from what we call “click money”, it does add up over time.
The majority of that money goes right back into the maintenance of the site. However, we donate a minimum of 25% of those proceeds to charity so you can feel good about shopping our recommended links!
Every Mother Counts is a non-profit organization dedicated to making pregnancy and childbirth safe for every mother, everywhere.
Why Every Mother Counts? You're currently reading a mother/daughter blog! We're passionate about giving every child the best possible start in life, and that begins with healthy moms. More than 300,000 women die each year from complications during pregnancy and childbirth. An average of 4 orphans are left behind for each death. Up to 98% of those deaths are preventable with proper healthcare, nutrition, and medical attention. Being a mom has brought me (Erin) the most joy in my life, so it's important that we help give other families the opportunity to develop that same mother/daughter bond.

End the Backlog is an initiative of the Joyful Heart Foundation. Their goal is to end the backlog of hundreds of thousands of untested rape kits in the United States. The vision of the Joyful Heart Foundation is a world free from sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse.
Why End the Backlog?
We grew up watching Detective Olivia Benson do her thing on Law & Order SVU, and have seen every single episode that ever aired. When Mariska Hargitay (the actress who played Detective Benson) founded this organization, we knew it was one we'd support wholeheartedly.
It's a disgrace that hundreds of thousands of rape kits across the U.S. sit untested on shelves while rapists go free. We currently live in Georgia — a state with 10,000+ untested kits. Texas, our previous home state, has nearly 20,000 untested kits. There's no excuse for those numbers. Each untested kit represents a lost opportunity for healing and justice for a survivor. Girl Up helps fund and support United Nations Foundation organizations that serve to empower girls in developing countries.
Why Girl Up? Their posters commonly claim, “You see a girl. We see the future.” There's so much meaning in that statement! We're fortunate to reside in the U.S. in (relatively) safe environment, where we have the ability to attend school, seek higher education, and are able to make important decisions regarding our healthcare needs.
In many developing countries, young girls are barely surviving or are living in refugee camps. They lack the official paperwork needed to prove their identity so they can enroll in school, they don't have access to health care, and they're in need of a safe environment to learn skills that will help them succeed on their own (many have lost both parents). Girl Up provides comprehensive support in 5 critical areas: Education, Health, Safety, Leadership, and Documentation.
