Sure, I could be dreaming of a white Christmas right about now — but it's so much more fun to think Gruene! After all, what could be better than Christmas in Gruene? It's one of my favorite small towns in Texas.
I'm currently working on a very detailed guide that will be posted on Thanksgiving day (tomorrow, for non U.S. readers). I'm also working on a post about the famous Gruene Hall and a Gruene shopping guide. In the meantime, I thought I'd share a sneak peek of this small town destination as a bit of a teaser. Here's a glimpse into Gruene during the holiday season.

Isn't it a beautiful town? It's one of those towns that really makes you believe in the magic of the holiday season. The twinkly lights cast a warm glow over the entire downtown area, and the locals are welcoming and cheerful.

Where to Stay: Hotels
If you're interesting in planning more than just a day trip to Gruene, here are a few recommendations in the area:
Gruene Mansion Inn B&B – This is the charming white Victorian style Bed & Breakfast seen in the photos above. It's in the center of historic downtown, and is only steps away from Gruene Hall and The Gristmill restaurant. They have free wifi, a complimentary continental breakfast, and free parking. It's ranked #1 on TripAdvisor!
Gruene Homestead Inn – If you prefer to stay on the outskirts of town, this is a good option. It's not a hotel, but rather a collection of small farm homes located on an authentic German homestead. If you love nature and want to relax on a rocking chair while enjoying the beautiful Texas scenery, this would be a good fit. They also have free wifi, a complimentary continental breakfast, and free parking.
Where to Stay: Home Rentals
If you've never rented a home through HomeAway or Airbnb, please read my post How to Rent a Vacation Home You'll Love. I provide all of my best tips for finding the perfect getaway! You can also get a $40 Airbnb credit from me at that link. (I stay in home rentals 90% of the time when I travel.)
If you are planning to visit Gruene anytime and have questions about which Airbnb or Homeaway rental would be right for your situation, please email me ([email protected]) and I'll help you locate a few good options!
Gruene truly is a magical little town during the holidays, so you won't want to miss tomorrow's post! Christmas in Gruene means a parade of horses, a cowboy themed Santa named Cowboy Kringle, live readings of Dickens classic tale A Christmas Carol — and so much more. It's the perfect family event to usher in the holiday season.
